Yamaha 150hp 2 stroke remote oil tank

Hello all. I’ve just bought a boat as a winter project and discovered the twin 1996 Yamaha 150hp 2 strokes only have the small 0.9litre oil injection tank under the cowling! They should have an additional 10 litre remote tank also.

Boat and engine new in 1996 and only 2 owners. Anyone had any experience of these engines? I would have thought the range is very limited without the remote tanks. I’m certain they’ve never had them fitted!!

Not cheap but well worth the investment. You'll need your engine serial number to get a new one or look for a used one.

You sure the oil injection hasn’t been deleted? It might just be running on pre-mix. Quite common on old VDO outboards.

Thank you for input. The fuel in the tank shows no signs of pre mix but the fuel from the filter does show oil mixed so I assume the small oil tank is operational.

I can retrofit the remote tanks but needing 2, one for each engine is quite a cost.

Further investigation does show the fuel tank is pre mixed with 2 stroke and all the oil injection system has been removed! Just have to live with it. Any thoughts on oil mix ratio? I guess 50:1, would you run a hotter sparkplug to prevent fouling?

Make sure the oil bottle has the spec ‘TCW 3’ written on it
Run 75/1
Run standard plugs
Don’t mess with a different heat range
Bullet proof engine that Yam

Hello Richard. Good to see your still on here. Ive been away for a while, many boats later I have to admit crossing to the dark side with a Beneteau 350 oceanis. Stick and flappy bits to you.

Thank you for info on Yamahas. Its never had an oil injection fitted from new it appears from tracing past history.
In case your thinking who I am! I did renovate a Fjord 32 called
Raymond Stewart' at Port Dinorwic and did some courses with you as did my son John who has a very interesting boat you would like. 39ft Velocity with 1200 hp. Very very fast. We're down in Pwllheli these days Ive sent you a pm with my mobile.
