There are many tales of confrontations between yachts and larger vessels ........
I heard the following recently from an acquaintance who used to skipper RORO ferries to a certain well-known port on the Isle of Wight. Coming into the port he was confronted by a large yacht who insisting on her rights as the 'stand on' vessel refused to give way. The ferry (constrained by it's draft) continued it's course, the yacht (bearing the white ensign of the royal yacht Squadron) continued on it's collision course. The ferry sounded multiple blasts on it's horn - no change in the yacht's course. Finally in desperation my friend ordered the bow doors of the RORO ferry to be opened. Only then did the yacht change course presumably from fear of being swallowed up!
