Hello all,

I have come across summat called a Yachting World Sloop, it's a plywood jobbie, and about 22 feet long. I have done a Google but can't find owt about it, anybody got any info or photos / drawings? I can find info on the YW 5 tonner, but I don't think it's that boat, it don't look meaty enough for a 5 tonner?

I have a YW People's Boat, about 24 ft long, lifting centreboard/keel. 2.8 tons on the weighbridge.

I'll dig up a photo.

Thank you! I wonder if it's the same thing? There can't be that many of them I reckon?

I think about 75 sets of plans were sold, and back in the early 90s, someone had found 25 of them.

Photos still being sought.

I owned one ["Jacaranda"] when I lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s.

She was an excellent little boat, she sailed very well and was very easy to handle single-handed. Although built of plywood she had a very pleasing shape, being double-chined. I liked her so much I even investigated the possibility of shipping her back to the UK. This would have been too expensive, so I bought a set of plans and building instructions with the idea of building one. This never happened but I still have the plans and instructions in their original cardboard tube. The plans are very detailed and include fittings and sail plan.

They were designed by Captain P. Brohall from Sweden.
LOA 23 ft. LWL 18 ft. Beam 7ft 3". Draft 3 ft or 3 ft 9" . Fixed or centre board versions available. Duoble chined. Stuart-Turner 4hp engine or outboard.

I haven't any photos I'm afraid.

Are you thinking of building one?

Hi Ken,

Well no I wasn't but it's a thought?? I have come across one for sale, in very nice condition. Wouldn't suit some folks I know, but she would be the kind of thing I would be happy with, I have even given some thought to a Debutante, junk rig is what's on the agenda, and summat like these would be ideal for conversion. I would have to sell my Swift first though, to finance such a project. I would quite like an Eventide, but most of the silly old buggers that have got them ask too much for them, so they don't sell, and tend to sit and rot until their owners come to their senses a bit! Then they is hardly worth bothering with! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Further to the one I have found for sale, I have just been in touch with the brokers, and the woman on the other end of the phone refused to send me some higher definition pics???? The ones on their website are too small, and wont expand if you click on them.......Can you believe some people??

Mine has been sitting in a farm shed for seven years, so is nicely dried out on her three axle trailer. Someone persuade me to sell her

That's the one!................Ta muchly! Well, as I said in my previous post, I would have to sell my Swift before I could take anything else on, that wouldn't take too long I wouldn't think, they seem to be very popular.

So as things stand, I guess it's up to anyone who's got the money handy to talk turkey with you. Thanks for taking the trouble to post those, she looks like she is / was a nice boat! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If she's in good condition, buy her. You won't regret it. Lovely little boat that really sails well and goes to windward, unlike the Eventide.

Good to see that picture, brings back happy memories of my boat.

ps the Twister "Pouncer", mentioned in the caption to your photo, is sailing in the Arctic with a lady skipper/owner.

If I had the money right this minute I would! By the way, Eventides go to windward with a Junk Rig, it's to do with the relocation of the mast, and the bigger sail.

So who wants to start a row about junk rigs then? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Not I.

I'm still recovering from the mauling I got over "tyre pressures"!

That'll teach ya! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

PS. I might be interested in those plans, if they are complete and not too pricey, PM me??
