Just started perusal of the latest issue and found that Nigel Calder is waxing lyrical over a 2 page spread giving the good word that you need a pair of right angled needle nose pliers to get the impellor out of a variety of Yanmar diesels.

Not only that but he recommends using an oxy acetylene torch to Bu88er up the pliers so that you can grip the handles with one hand while hitting them with the hammer to get the impellor moving.

If he was serious he'd know that you use an offcut of wood as a fulcrum and then you don't need the hammer, you just push gently against the fulcrum and the impellor slips out as easy as .......(anything that slips out very easily). Thus you keep your nice pliers pristine and don't risk smacking anything with the hammer.

To add insult to injury he asks why Yanmar haven't wised up to the problem and moved the impellor so you can get at it in their latest models. They have, Nigel they have.

If I'd known you could get paid for this sort of thing I'd have had a go myself. However, I do have some old rope that I wonder if YM might be interested in purchasing.

I'm glad I found a perfect pair of 80 degree long handled needle nose pliers at Lymingtom market long before Mr. Calder published his Yanmar instructions! I don't subscribe to YM but YW publishes some equally appalling articles, the worst this year was an offering by the editor.

I'll stick to getting my advice from you guys

Good to see that finally YM has recognised all the raggies who happen to carry a oxyacetylene torch with them on board for jobs such as changing your pump impellor.
