It is said that you can spot a wicketkeeper walking down the street by his fingers arrowed to all points of the compass.

I reckon I can tell a yachstman going down the escalators at Holborn by the scars on his nut ( most of us cruisers have little or no hair - stress ? ).

Even when you have owned the same boat for years you still keep doing it or is it just me ?

Would a Designer Musto crash helmet sell ?

Has anyone overcome this problem to manageable proportions ? I seem to do it more when I start rushing about for no good reason.

A Theory:
You suggest that the majority of the male cruising population have grown through their thatch. This is perhaps an age thing. So is Altzheimers. On wet days I go below, sliding the hatch closed to keep out the weather, I come out, forgetting the closed hatch and peel back another layer of scalp - we all suffer from altzheimers. Q.E.D.

scars of the scalp are not the only yachtie give away.

helmets may be useful in the short term but not many wear them all the time and then Alzheimers sets in at exponentially as you have forgotten to even think about the upper dome.

we use them with youngsters in oppies and topper training, when they have got used to helmets and later don't use them, it's amazing how many more heads take a bang from the boom (though few are serious).

My mizzen boom, normally sits about 3 inches above my head in port, but when sailing, it slides down to tighten everything, it then sits 3 inches below head height, I warn everybody, mind the mizzen boom. Then promptly walk into it myself, nobody else has ever done it! I walked into the bloody thing 3 times in an hour once. cursing and swearing, but I always do it, its got to be an age thing!

The permanent stoop of the servile....

... financial supporter of a yacht is obligatory.
try to stand errect for an instant and she will bop you on the side of the head with her boom just to remind you of who's really the boss.

Wives use cold feet for the same purpose in my experience!

Some of my mates used to take the mick out of me because I am vertically challenged till I took them on my boat and they had to stoop so much. Think they must have modelled interiors on normal sized people like me. Hehehe
