Do Dolphins Ever Sleep. 211 Questions and Answers about Ships, The Sea and the Sky. Some of it is pretty useless information, except maybe for a pub quiz, but others are really quite interesting. Looks like it will live on the boat for a browse on quiet evenings.

Instant Weather Forecasting. Alan Watts. Only 64 pages, but an excellent idiot's guide to predicting the imminent weather from the cloud formations.

Also got a 'Ship in a Bottle' kit, which should be fun ..... once. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Oh, and Wine Knot - a very old nautical drinking game. Yet to be opened..... watch this space!
 
Nice nautical presents, I am about to read Mayday, hope it doesnt scare me off sailing!

bignick- instant weather forecasting by alan watts is an excellent book on weather, i have book called reading the weather by alan, hardback, and goes into lots of detail, one for the next level of forecasting..

Spent an hour this morning reading the pilot for the Sound of Harris

A copy of Reed's 'Skippers Handbook' and 'Understanding the rule of the road' by Paul Boissier (colregs made easy) Both have been 'lifesavers' as tv over the festivities has been so dire. Oh, and a SH 300i gps/chart plotter -can't wait to get it on the boat!
 
The Last Man Across the Atlantic by Paul Heiney and The Long Way by Bernard Moitessier.

Now if only I could get some peace and quiet to read them...
 
got Moitessier's "The Long Way" too, from 12 yr old son; great taste kid!

I had an £80 book token from Waterstones and I'm going to blow the lot shortly - so stop messing around and GIVE ME SOME REAL POINTERS!!

PS Have had the grandchildren getting me up at 3am several days in a row now, and losing my cool a bit! Who's a grumpy Git now then?

Can recommend the Cloud Spotter's Guide - not given to me for Christmas but as a leaving UK present.

Funny, clear, up to date. Check it out.
 
No yachty pressies, but the nicest things for me were:

1) My granddaughter falling asleep in my arms as I sang "My bonnie lies over the ocean" to her

2) My daughter asking me to teach her how to splice (as I was splicing lines onto new fenders for Freestyle - ex Earl's Court boat show special offer

3) The gratitude of the assembled family for taking upon myself the joyful Christmas morning task of unblocking the septic tank. Indeed they were so grateful, they wouldn't let me help prepare the lunch.
