Might have some work back in the UK which necessitates us getting back to Blighty around October or so. We would ideally like to make max possible use of our time over here - currently in Cayman, heading towards Panama ans so are looking to possibly ship the boat back. Anyone any ideas who might do this etc etc etc....

Any info useful..

Cheers

Thanks Martin!
Hmmmm, proving to be more tricky than I thought. We could sail back up to the US I guesss - we are in the Caymans at the moment - but was keen to spend the summer in Panama....

Hum....

Hello Foxes and Martin

We have been looking into this too. With two young children on board, Incidents off Venezuela and the continuing Gulf of Aden problems have caused us to re-think. Also two kids under five full time cruising over long distances is well...quite a challenge.

We are currently in the Bahamas and are looking at Shipping in June to Southampton. My brokerage is really taking off now, so it's also a good time to be back in the UK. Ironically we have hardly sailed at all in the Solent so it will be a new cruising ground to us.

Seven Star have regular voyages from east coast USA from either West Palm Beach or Savannah to Holland with some stopping at Southampton, but not all.

Dockwise also go to Palma Mallorca from Port Everglades and other destinations in the Med.

For 40ft sail, prices range from $14,000 to $18,000 depending on lift on lift off or float on float off.

I'm not certain, but with Hurricane season approaching I think you would have to go from Florida or Savannah in the US, or if from the Caribbean perhaps Martinique or St Thomas.

Let us know what you decide, PM me for more detail and I can give you some direct contacts.

Assume you have considered a delivery crew. A reliable outfit like PYD should provide a competitive quote but it may be that taking account of flights, expenses etc there may not be much margin between that and a deck cargo option, although it does look like a lot of dollars!

Thanks Samwise

YEs, have considered delivery crew and agree not much in it. Current plan is to head back up to Florida, and if we are early enough, to sail back over and if we are too late, then to ship her. Its a lot of dollars, but time is of the essence and, as ever, valuable. Still, lets see what happens!

Cheers

Dockwise have a lift on voyage going to Southampton from Freeport Bahamas at the end of May. Looks promising and reasonable rate.

Had a friend who wanted to move their boat but didn't want to pay the full shipping rate.
His plan was to go to the last stopping off - loading port for the carrier ship and wait to see if there was any space left, luckily for him there was and he offered a small part of the full price and was accepted.
He had enough time to wait and see, don't know if you can do this?.

Spent last summer in Panama, never seen lightning like that before!
The boat we were working on was hit along with at least 12 others that we know of.
Be careful and check your insurance is up to date and has adequate cover for all your electrics.

Mark

Thanks Mark and have PM's you.

We read your escapades with interest as we were stuck off the coast of Southern Spain a few years back. Fortunately the insurance coughed up for the lot. Really wouldnt want to go through that again for either of our sakes and have actually decided to head back to Florida as options are somewhat greater there. We were quoted about £50k from Panama, so that was an obvious non starter..... along with the lightning....
