Hi please can anyone recommend someone to do a survey for a second hand yacht.

I am finding it confusing with all the regulations realting to minimum professional standards. There seems to be several professional bodies.

Also what do people consider the going rate ?

Thanks in advance Nick

Thanks for the recommendation Sailorman. I have spoken to Mr Evans who sounded just the ticket and has agreed to do my survey.

I suppose its quite an endorsement in itself that he does not need to advertise.

Thanks Nick

i have known Martin for 10ys.
he surveyed my last boat for the new owner, i didn't know Martin then.
the survey was very fair to both parties he didn't find anything i didn't already know.
i actually phoned him thanking him for a very factual survey & have used him ever since

Martin did a first class survey for a friend some years ago when he was buying a wooden Stella, and gave me some tips about engine mechanics when I once spoke to him myself. Sadly he was on holiday when I was buying my previous boat, so I used Paul Stevens. Paul was also very good and thorough. The boat was being osmosis treated for a second time, and he took an hour of his time to have a look at the boat at the stage when it was having an extra layer of laminate put on to make sure it was being done right, going back at a later date to carry out the full survey. Now we could start a thread about who NOT to use, but the posts would all have to be deleted by the webmaster!
