What, if any, are the downsides of purchasing the yachting equivalent of 'timeshare', where someone buys a portion of the ownership & any costs are shared, particularly when compared to an annual charter?

Potential downsides that spring to mind could be syndicate members falling out over something, wanting or needing for financial reasons to pull out, not pulling their weight with upkeep/maintenance, leaving the boat like a pigsty. But I'd have thought if you get the right people and boat for you could be a good option. I've only met a few syndicates but they all seemed happy enough...

Syndicated yacht ownership seems so sensible and logical. But we‘ve decided we couldn’t do it. Acceptability of a syndicate arrangement seems to me to depend on how one sees a yacht. Is the boat an “it” or a “she”? Good job we’re all different eh?
