Was wondering is it possible to do deals with brokers part exchange if upsizing to a boat on their list or is it a waste of time contacting them this way. I contacted one broker and they just didn't do any part exchanges, so wondering is it common with other brokers. Also seems a bit shortsighted in some cases if the person selling is looking for something smaller and the person buying is looking for something bigger but the broker won't consider such an arrangement.

Of course if I won the Lotto it wouldn't matter, but I never win anything!

I did it with my previous boat but it was the owner of my current one who I did the part ex with as he was able to get some of the cash and sell on my boat for the rest. the boat had been on the market for a number of years I believe.

The reason why brokers are not usually interested in part exchange is because they are only agents - they do not own the boats they are selling. Some are also dealers buying and selling on their own account and may then be interested, particularly if you are buying a new boat from them. Also some owners may be interested, but it is rare to be able to put together a deal where both parties want the boat owned by the other.
