Hi all.
can you help me with some advice. At last the only thing left to do is paint the hull and deck. the sanding and filling is also done. the boat is of GRP constuction and was first launched in 1972, and quite a lot of filling was needed.
So, I have a build up of paint (sound) to most of the surface, some bare areas of original Gel-coat, and fibre glass filler to little bits here and their. The intention is not to make her look brand new, but on the other hand I don't what her to look like a garden shed painted in gloss white by the kids!
At the last boat jumble I brought enough paint at a very good price just dented tins and everything in German. The undercoat is JOTUN BRIGNOLA SPEED UNDERCOAT IN TWO PARTS. The white gloss top coat is HEMPEL POLYENAM again two part. I have tried the acetone test on the hull paint and it did not rub off, but I don't know if I can use the above paint or not, also what kind of brushing primer can I use to before using (I hope) the two part paint, Hope this makes sense, and that you can help me.
Regards Terry

Joton have a good web site

I note you are in Essex, so you will probably know Dauntless boatyard Canvey island . Its very likely you bought the paint from the owner of the spares shop in dauntless yard,as he sells a lot of paint at the boat jumbles. The guys name is Barry phone--07833562536. His son sprays lots of boats using 2 pack paint, give him a call and he will probably give you the info you need, barry does know what hes talking about paint. I have painted a few in my time but cant comment on the paint you bought as I only use international 709. You asked about brush painting, thats something ive not done, if its only a clean up use the short haired mohair rollers a much better finish than brushing.Obviously sprayings the best option if you can

Re Yacht paint

Thanks for the reply yes you are right on both counts even had a boat there once. I'll give Barry a ring. I have used two part paint before and found it easy to apply by brush and the finish is amazing, not a brush stroke to be seen. Thanks again. Kind Regards terry

General rule of thumb is no 2 pack on top of one pack.
One pack on top of two pack OK.
Be very careful of what paint is already on there.
You may need a barrier coat in between.
Ask the manufacturer if in doubt.
Cheers,
Chris
