Yacht moorings, Hamble Southampton area

My wife and I bought our first boat in December, the previous owners kindly let us keep her on her current pontoon in the Hamble but only until the end of March.
We are sailing her to Inverness around May/June ish.
So we are looking for another berth/mooring to cover April and May. I asked at the current marina for a price and they quoted £1000/month which is almost what i will be paying for a whole year up here.
Does anybody know of anything available on the river in a more affordable price bracket. She is 44' LOA.

They don't do 'affordable' on the Hamble if you want a marina berth. Portsmouth/Chichester or even on the Island are a bit less expensive. Look here http://www.bluemoment.com/marinassouth.html

Your problem is that they will charge you for 3 months (1 quarter) unless you negotiate. Universal (http://www.universalmarina.co.uk/) have spaces, so MAY be willing to do a deal. Otherwise get out of the Hamble and try Gosport or somewhere else.

Hi some thoughts,

I realise its not Hamble but I am having a similar discussion with Premier Marinas in Gosport (the old Campers marina). They seem prepared to offer monthly rates for temporary mooring so you are not tied up on quarterly contracts. The summer rates apply for April May so the charges are steep but it might be another perspective. I gather power is included in the berthing fees. I'm sorry I dont have the phone number but ask for Hugh, the marina manager and speak with him. He seemed most helpful when i talked to him about berthing for next year.

Alternatively, Royal Clarence Marina at Portsmouth have monthly rates too (power is extra and not cheap though).

we keep our boat on a serviced swinging mooring at gosport - yard are very friendly and helpful and include water taxi to and from at reasonable hours - might be worth trying them as they normally have space with people out of water for longer winters - gosport boat yard

Re electricity being included at Gosport Premier Marina. We're on a short term winter contract and are being charged £45 pcm for the (un-metered) electricity supply /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

There are visitors moorings on The Hamble on the long pontoon, mid river opposite the Harbourmasters office. Try having a word with the Harbourmaster at Warsash - 01489 576387.

If you want a marina berth, Shamrock Quay in Southampton is likely to be the least expensive, but still not cheap!
