yacht hatches

I want to refurbish the hatches on a jeanneau 37. i have bought the new perspex but the actual hatch is very pitted/ scratched and shabby. advise please on what paint/ primer i should use. my partner can no longer help so i may not be able to remove the hatch form the base or boat. i dont need to replace the seal. thanks for any help.

Just a caution. Removing the hatch frame from the deck base is very time-consuming and also you cannot lever the frame up without risk of distortion which can alter the tolerances on the hinge. I assume the safest method is to remove only the hatch top itself. Can't comment on painting the aluminum frame other than using epoxy filler to smooth it out and then prime and paint.
