Due to very unwelcome medical reasons I will not be able to bring my new boat back from Kilmelford ( just south of Oban) this summer so it looks like a delivery is on the cards.

Boat is a fully kitted up Mauritius 43, charts and pilot books are all there.

I need some recommendations of experience deliverers and how they price these jobs?

Any experiences and advice very welcome.

Thanks Nick

Sorry to learn you are incapacitated.

This guy certainly fits your bill but I dont know what he charges. Keeps his boat at Croabh Haven so is in the right neck of the woods too.

If it helps with costs I would be happy to crew (all dates being compatible) for food and lift home.

I have no commercial interest but I did do my dayskipper practical with him.

Ian Hunter has been delivering yachts since the mid 80's and has an excellent reputation. He'd be my first choice.

Be ware of the additional costs that can add up when comparing different delivery skippers. Ian may look expensive on the first pass but that is because he is up front about the time needed to check the boat before departure and to clean and maintain it at the end of the trip.

In addition to the £/mile, check with all the skippers what they expect for the cost of food, fuel and transport of the crew from their home base to Kilmelford and from the finish location back to their home base.

I've had a professional delivery in the past so I have had experience. Ian wasn't available but he recommended an alternative that worked out well.

If the delivery skipper can't give you their pre delivery inspection check list and requirements, then don't go with them. An experienced skipper will be meticulous about checking the boat before they set off and should spend at least a full day to get to know the boat before casting off. you should also be available/prepared to have repairs done before the trip starts.

I did the reverse on a 42 footer in May last year. Timing wise we left plymouth on friday night and made it to Islay on tuesday night. The slowly to Oban. A week is about right. I did this for a friend so there was no fees involved, just a free holiday for me and a crew and a free delivery for the owner.

Is there no one you trust who you can offer the trip to? Perhaps a circular e mail to the OCC might get you a response and by default we're all pretty experienced.

Just a thought

Jamie
