We're looking to book a charter sailing yacht at a reasonable price for 2 weeks in early June 2018.

Ideally a smaller boat (30 to 35 feet) based in Corfu, Preveza, Levkas, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations or have a suitable boat for charter? Please post or PM me.

Many thanks :-)

Go to www.latsail.com they are the world's largest discounted yacht charter company with 700 companies using them and over 7,000 boats. The cheapest flights in Europe are three months ahead so look at the site and track the prices for boat and date and then book the flight and boat. The companies use to give latesail their boats about a month ahead but now you will find them three to six months ahead.

You must have meant www.latesail.com, rushed advertising?

Bobs Yachts or Pinnacle Yachts. Both small, British run firms.

Boats under 35' are rare, but both those have older Jeanneaus of 31/32'

Also Odysseus Yachting Holidays have several 32/33' Bavaria or Beneteau

We have charted for many years and the best company by far I have come across is NISOS YACHT CHARTER:

Not the cheapest on the face of it but when you look at what's included it comes out very competitive and the service is superb.

However, not in Corfu and only have one boat the size the OP requires. If considering Lefkada then Sail Ionian worth considering.

Really appreciated: many thanks! (but keep posting the smaller independents, especially if they offer a reasonable rate)

It did surprise me how little ££ difference there was between flotilla and bareboat. I was expecting bareboat to be cheaper but there was the surprise... We've previously been with Sailing Holidays but they aren't so keen to let us off on our own for a couple of days whilst we go to a wedding in Kefalonia, even though I hold an ICC and have been sailing for the last 37 years...

They will once you are out there. Based on my experience.:encouragement:

London head office will say different things to the Lead crew, who without exception seem content as long as you 'check in' with them via mobile phone at the beginning (before 1000) and end of each day (before 2000).

Of course this is based on you staying within the 'sea area' of the holiday you booked. You cannot book for say Northern Ionian and zip off to Italy.

I sailed last year with Omegasail http://omegasail.co.uk and was pleased with the boat. They have yachts from 31ft. Contact Christos Plegas and tell him Melody from Aegean Sailing School recommended him and asked if he could give you a good price :) It may not make any difference but it's worth a try ...

I asked this same question a few years ago.

We went with "Bobsyachts", a small Corfu outfit recommended by Tranona

We chartered a Jeanneau 32 for two weeks at a very reasonable price. The boat was very well presented and equipped. I would very happy to charter with them again.

I have no experience of other charter companies in the Ionian

We used a company beginning with K from Gouvia and they were truly awful. Actual boat was owned & run by another company; they argued among themselves as to whether i should have an outboard for my dinghy (although I had paid for one) and the anchor winch failed in Lakka. Had to manually drop and retrieve for several days as engineers couldn’t be found. It was a complete and total contrast to Sail Ionian (who we used 4 years ago) who couldn’t have been more helpful.

I'd use latesail again. Better prices than going direct to charter companies.

Coincidentally we are Chartering an Odyssey 33i on 9th June out of Gouvia, from the Son in Law of Bobs Yachts, very reasonably priced, he has two yachts and runs a yacht maintenance business, so the boat should be in good fettle. Probably too late for you now?

Probably too late now but try Omegasails.co.uk. Greek outfit based in Gouvia on Corfu. Can recommend them as I know the owners. Boats are first class and range from 33' to 51'

Based on the post here, I contacted a couple of companies for a last minute deal at the height of the August rush a couple of weeks ago. Just back from a week on one of Omega Sail's boats, a fairly new SO33i.

Christos met us at Gouvia and did a thorough check out and made sure we were happy with everything. It was my first time out as a new day skipper and we had a great time. Unfortunately there wasn't much wind in the mornings but by the afternoon everywhere was packed. We tried to second guess the flotillas but the usual places (Lakka, Mongonisi, Gaios etc) were mobbed. On a couple of days we decided to motor in the morning to grab a good place and sit back for the rest of the day. It was only when we'd then gone north around the island later in the week that we picked up some nice winds but for a novice, it was too risky to anchor up on the north coast, Kassiopi had no space so we came back round and stopped in Ay Stefanos for the night. The Galini taverna there was our best and most entertaining meal of the trip.

I'd like to do it again but in less crowded waters. The legs were OK but the bays were full to bursting.

I came to learn that although a motor will give way to sail, the bigger it is, the more it will tend to turn to cross 50m in front of you rather than nip behind, setting up wash that would break over the boat. Especially if it has an Italian ensign.

There were dozens of firms based in Gouvia although many of them seem to cater for other European markets with websites in Dutch or German.

Saw a couple of memorable boats, SY A which did move under power one day and Prince Jefri's ex "Tits" (now Samax). It makes you realise just how much money some people have.
