I have just had the renewal paperwork through from my existing insurer and thought I would check with some other companies. I was a little surprised that Y came in almost 100 quid less than my renewal for the same cover, less excess and some pretty impressive claims about the "All Risks" basis of their policy i.e. "Fire, Sinking, Submersion, Rigging Failure, Collision, and Stranding are covered even if caused by mechanical breakdown, wear and
tear or Latent Defect".

Any catches - has anyone had good or adverse experience of this company?

I & many others here are insured with them

Just received my renewal quote from them, no increase on last year. Will still have a shop around though, otherwise they may get complacent!

read the small print, I once got cheaper insurance and lost £8000, due to the very small print.

Quite so - asked Y Yacht Insurance for a quote this year.
They were cheaper than my current insurer.
Their policy - and its 4 pages of exclusions - did not exactly give me a warm, confident feeling inside.
Stuck with current insurer for another year.

None but can you get any assurance about future increases? Are they offering attractive one-year rates to get you to transfer?

I am also with Y Yacht Insurance. I have read the small print and I am happy with it. I had issues with other insurers as my boat didn't have a recent survey and although out of the water with me doing minor work some other insurers would not quote at all. Barry at "Y" was prepared to listen to my story and then covered me at a reasonable cost. Nice people to deal with.
