We're currently stuck in a Portuguese port on a bank holiday so all the shops are closed.

We've had some welding done on our wind gen pole, but they've run out of acid to clean the welds.

Does anyone know if I can use Y-10 rust remover on the welds, it contains 10% oxalic acid.

Many Thanks

Tim

ITYWF that a fairly high concentration of nitirc acid plus hydrofluoric acid is used ( Typically 20% HNO3, 5% HF by weight) is used.

10% of a relatively weak organic acid probably will not be effective, but if it is all you have try a very long contact time. Many hours rather than a few minutes.

An informative article here http://www.hse.gov.uk/welding/post-weld-cleaning.htm on the use of pickling pastes and mechanical alternatives that may be appropriate.

If you have something to polish the welds that should help stop it going rusty.
