If you look very carefully just under the bow of this almost impossible to spot little container ship trying to moor up at Thamesport on the Medway, you may just see a large gin palace (surely not a Broom) desperately trying to avoid being squashed between the ship and wharf after trying to overtake up the inside.

Who is the stand on vessel and who will come off worst.
Ps.No Brooms were hurt in the making of this post.

If the motorboat overtook then surley it is his responsibilty to do it without causing the ship to take avoiding action, or hitting it (or it hitting him!).

What about Colregs Rule 9 (b) or18 (a)(ii) and Medway Ports River Bylaws 1991 as amended, especially Bylaw 22 (requiring general care and caution) and Bylaw 24 (concerning the importance of not obstructing large vessels navigating in the fairway).

Mind you if anyone is daft enough to try and squeeze between a berthing ship and the berth then they deserve all they get.

As this is a Colregs sort of thing I am now going to duck for cover.

When he disappeared under the stern of the ship ,it did seem ages before he emerged again.Suspect that from his point of view it would have been an interesting few long minutes.

Can remember dawdling through Garrison Point a few years ago one fine summers evening, only to be rudely awoken by a blast from the incoming ferry immediately behind me,politely requesting that I get out of its "£$%& " way.

Ah, well you see Fred there is the problem, he was using his engines for propulsion and wasn't solely relying on the current to reach his destination. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is he part of the Rochester Navy?
I came across them one year on their way out to sea around the entrance to Stangate Creek. All over the b****y river they were and all doing about 18 kts.
Being bloody minded I stuck to my course but wound up the speed. Didn't seem to bother them at all!!
