Always look forward to any adventure around to and up Ye Olde Father Thames.

The first bit will be mill pond (rarely) or blimming lumpy (usually).
Either way a tad boring, the final leg after Teddington is also challenging but for different reasons.
Add the difficulty of timing in order to take advantage of tides and not to bounce around outside the London Marinas, or if going up further having sufficient water to get up to the lock if early, or under Hammersmith if late.
Watch your speed due to wash or lots of welcome to the river "friendly" waves from rowers.
Best bit is , after the Barrier, going through Central London, you do of course have to really keep your wits about you, been told off for various reasons.

Love the Clippers and frequently use them to move around inside central London.
Uber Clippers have been running a special day return trip from Gravesend and Tilbury up to London Bridge on High days and Holidays for some time now.
Car parking available at £7.50 per day from the council car park opposite Town Pier or £5.00 in the ASDA a bit further up the road.
time to take the plunge .
Booked online and stood on the pier at 09.30. Windspeed around 18 knots and a really strong ebb.

Across to Tilbury to collect a few Essex types and off.
40 mins later we are through the barrier

and after brief stop at the O2 on up past Tower to London Bridge.

First big mistake ...... and did purchase "Roamer Tickets" which allow unlimited trips anywhere on the Uber system !
Should have disembarked , waited on the pier for the next internal Clipper and then continued on up the river to the London Eye pier.
Had no idea how far London Bridge pier was from our ultimate destination, the London Aquarium.
Try dragging 3 stroppy under 10s and their Mum possibly also under 10, along a cold windy river bank.
"Its just round the corner starts to lose its effectiveness after while."

Down to St Kats for lunch.

A great day out, somebody else steering for a change and if it breaks down its somebody elses problem, plus being able to look at stuff without worrying about getting in the way of stuff coming the other way or some inflateable whizzing up from behind.

The return 17.15.
An amazingly stable 26 Knots in the pitch dark will not happening again anytime soon.
The illuminated top of the Shard was giving an absolutely amazing light show.
Greenwich.

Apologies for the rubbish phone camera images.

The financial bit.
Roamer tickets.
Discounted Ticket for old poverty stricken pensioners £15.00.
Discounted ticket fro Delightful well behaved grandkids (and stroppy ones) £15.00
Ordinary well heeled young people . £30.00.

All sounds very familiar :)
As we live upstream would the trip work the other way round, what can you do in Gravesend and Tilbury? 😀

.I often feel that Gravesend suffers a little from the name.
A bit like Staines.

There is of course Bawley bay and there was a lightship to look at while sitting on a bench with a can of beer.

Also there is some sort of fortification.

Other than that I suppose not all that much to do. Maybe take the ferry across the River and watch the cranes?

The cruise ships still stop there.
One of the grandkids wanted to know why all the mooring ropes had those metal discs on them ?
Told them it was to stop passengers sneaking ashore after dark to enjoy the nightlife in Tilbury.
