This VHF comes supplied with a mains adaptor and rechargeable battery pack that it plugs into. The adaptor has an output of 12 volts and the battery pack output is 9 volts DC. I don't know about the workings of charging adaptors, but does anybody know whether a 12 volt DC supply from the boat could be fed directly into the battery pack? I'm not bothered about it charging the pack, but simply want the ability to run a VHF for longer periods from the boat's supply.

Adrian, have you tried your local Batttery Pac agent, they refurbish rechargable batteries and may be able to adapt a battery case with power connections, or your local radio repair outlet may be able to help you. Both are low cost options.

wouldn't recommend running handheld from continuous ships supply.

The efficiency of the battery will be greatly reduced.

rechargable batteries rely on being at least partially discharged on a regular basis in order to maintain their capacity.
