OK I have the insurance policy, original invoice, ICC, Radio Operators Licence, Boats Radio Licence (disc and doc), courtsey flags and a red ensign.
However whilst the boat is currently on the SSR, and the number is clearly displayed on the stern I can't find the damm certificate anywhere!
Advice please re a trip across to the other side before I can get a replacement and would your advice be influenced by a destination of Cherbourg or Alderney/Guernsey?

Hi Duncan

Channel Islands no prob but, personally, I wouldn't take our boat into French waters wihout the correct pieces of paper. Not worth the risk of hassle, spend a bit longer looking for it ? is it at the bottom of the nav pile/drawer

More than enough information for Guernsey and Alderney and I would certainly say that was enough for France also.

Have you got your Q flag?

my thoughts exactly - both to the trip and the pile!

Unfortunately it's not in any pile, folder or locker that I have thought of.

Can I just ask for a duplicate and/or am I likely to be requested to part with a further £10?

Re: Duplicate SSR

Of course, it should be less than £10 for an issue of a duplicate but ..........

Hmm - allow say £50 <BG>

Go with a raggy - you will just need a passport and a bottle of rum for the kipper /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

If the French customs boys are doing a check when you are there you will be in deep trouble! They will want to see your SSR original. Last time I was checked a friend tryed showing them a photocopy, they rejected it and wanted to see the original. He had it with him and had just wanted to see what would happen. I believe they impose hefty fines if you cannot produce the right paperwork.

thanks - that was my interpretation and, adding sods law, I realise that not having it will guarantee I get asked for it whilst having it guarantees I won't!
Now, anyone got the SSR phone number ......

JImg - are you saying that they will not even accept a photo copy vat invoice with the original stamp of the dealer on it stating it is a copy from their files?

I have all the other stuff but only a rubber stamped photocopy of the VAT invoice and a letter of me informing the UK vat office of the boat - to give evidence it is within UK Vat jurisdiction.

I have the SR papers, insurance, ICC,ships radio licence, my radio licence, stamped copy of VAT invoice from the original dealer. Is that enough for the French?

Ok by me. Don't bother with the "Q" though.

I have only ever been asked for passports ( i.e. identity ) and the original SSR document. I carry all the others as you have listed but no one in France, Belgium or Holland has ever asked for them.
Cheers
Jim

It suggests that Gludy but doesn't at all prove it. You can register a boat in UK without ever bringing it into UK waters let alone paying UK VAT.

I wouldn't fly the Q flag. That's positively asking the Douanes to come and pay you a visit. Keep a low profile, fly red ensign and french courtesy flag and you will likely be left alone. If you are stopped it is more likely to be police or port authorities, in which case you need SSR or part 1, plus passports, that's all, not VAT stuff

The Douanes gave me a spin in Cherbourg a couple of years ago. I had everything in a plastic document box (looks very proffesional)
They looked at the passports in detail, they just briefly leafed through the other paperwork. I think if it all looks in order and you haven't got to rummage through lockers to find stuff they don't look too hard.
They seem to be of "If it looks OK, it probably is OK" mentality.
