Hi all,

Anyone with knowledge of Fleetwood / River Wyre? I was wondering if we would be able to pick up a mooring overnight on the river somewhere - Google Earth shows moorings opposite the channel to Fleetwood Marina, are there any visitors moorings there suitable for our Centaur?

All the best,

Steve.

If you're looking at the Knott end side this is a great video to give you an idea

About 8 mins in shows Knott end moorings but def worth watching it all. Aurora's vids are brilliant. There's an old wooden skeleton shipwreck near the moorings but it's on the charts.

As the skipper says "Not a bad bit of England this"

Thanks for that - it took me back forty years to when I had a mud berth at Skipool.

Thanks Mike, that's really useful. I'll have to go through all those vids as from what I've seen so far they're covering the areas we want to sail this year.

Umm...if anyone happens to find a Centaur on their mooring at Knott End on Saturday evening we'll be on board and will move sharpish!

Best regards,

Steve.

Not forty years for me but about 25 years!
Certainly you could then pick up one of those moorings overnight-I used to and stay afloat with 4 foot draft.
Beware between there and Skipool because on low tides there is not much clearance even for a bilge keeler and of course when the plug is pulled you are on the bottom!

There is a considerable amount of silting now that dredging operations have ceased. Don't leave things too long after/before HW. You don't fancy the dock then?

Thanks ffiill.

Claymore - we'll be leaving the Ribble at HW on Sat, so wouldn't be able to enter the marina on that tide and the next HW is midnight-ish. We were hoping to be able to get down the sea channel and pick up a mooring further seaward than the dock, but I'm now wondering whether this is workable if the sea channel has silted considerably because we'll be getting towards low tide.

Grrr. Really want to get out somewhere this weekend, but the HW times are cutting down our daylight sailing range due to entry and exit times in the Ribble being around midday at the moment.

Thanks for your advice.

Steve.

You should be ok up to the moorings. The major silting is to the right at the moment as you come up. It moves around but its still deep on the Fleetwood side to the lifeboat Berth. Are you bilge or fin keel?

I've entered on lw-2 with the channel markers on the beach. Shallowest bit last year was perch 9.
I'm bk 1.4 draft. If you anchor put lots out, the flow is strong!
Nick - typing in Whitehaven Marina- Piel/Roa tomorrow.

@ Claymore, sorry for the brief reply earlier - quickly sent from my mobe during a rather tedious meeting! I appreciate your advice.

@Nick - thank you, I think we're going to give it a go - subject to the Captain's approval when she gets home from work.

Best regards,

Steve.
