I've registered (it's free for owners!) but haven't had any potential crew expressing interest in signing on - hardly surprising - see my profile!!

I replied to one ad "millionaire owner of brand new 65-foot yacht seeks crew. No contribution to expenses expected or accepted". Great fun!

Just a little pun, didn't mean to upset anyone!!

I agree waters are lovely, I've just come back from a week sailing the west coast.

Lucky you the West coast is a great place to sail how far North did you get?

A size thing surely. What better place can there be to sail? If it's hard for you to get here - that's your problem!

I used to be a member. Had some great trips on a variety of boats. I am now registered as owner/skipper and occasionaly have crewseeker members along. Again I have met some fantastic people and had great weekends. Never had any problems. I think a lot of people join for six months, make the attachments and then don't keep up their membership.

true within the meaning of the trade descriptions act but when i signed up offering berths on the ARC, i got only one reply from a totally unsuitable candidate. they wanted me to subscribe to their paid service which would presumably have got me more action.

given that there is so much demand for ARC places i can only conclude that the free service is deliberately restricted to get you to pay. if their paid service was that bad they'd have gone out of business years ago!

Re: www.crewseekers.co.uk?

Been using them from years to get crew. In all this time only had 2 who I would not ask back, one nicked a oilskin and one expected me to pay all his expenses !

Several have become friends and have developed to the point where they have either got the bug so much they have gone and bought their own yachts or I loan Ronhilda to them.
Had 2 new crew last weekend and they were absolute pleasure to have along. Both sent thankyou emails and want to come again.

Feedback from people over the years is it takes some phoning around before they find skipper/yacht that suits them and where they want to sail. But this is one way of seeing different skippers and yachts in action. Have had a couple who wanted to progress from Solent to Cross Channel but found out the old Mal de Mer was a problem.

Hope this helps.

Did it last year - worked very well and went transatlantic. Have a look in October's YM for Pond Life
