At the bottom of Lune deep there is a large structure, looks like a large ISALA with a very tall pointed steel structure on top. It must be 50+ feet high.

This is not marked on my charts, on the chart plotter or indead on the laptop charts.

So WTF is it! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif as my second in command asked when we passed it yesterday?

I think it was put there to gather wind information for a proposed wind farm that has been shelved because of some rare wading ducks that they have found there.

The first wind farm off Walney is progressing with all of the bases now installed and the secondary structures are being fitted - at least we can see them now!

They plan to start building the Ormonde combined wind and gas field next year off the Northern end of Walney and that will be followed by another wind farm of about 400 turbines. It will be interesting to get across to the IOM!
 
The Lune Deep is deep, so it won't there where they put it, as it would be underwater and not very good at gathering wind data.

There was a ship that hit a drilling rig a few years ago, don't suppose something fell off when it was brought back in.

And yes, I need closure on what an ISALA is too.

Sorry for confusing everybody, I should have checked before posting, it should have read IALA.......to be precise a Cardinal Mark.

in fact you didnt confuse everyone, if anyone ........ anyone with half a brain would have realised what you meant.
why were you up so long ? doesnt sound like you are having fun doing that, something should be changed if you dont get a chance to rest, relax and enjoy life.

I'm now a bit confused, if you were meaning the towers on Shell Flat I still think they were for wind info - if these structures are on the sea bed of Lune Deep I've not got a clue!
 
These towers are just south west of Lune deep and are in the water.................or my boat must sail on wet grass.............or !! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I'll have another look when I pass next time...........April 2006 /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
