Off to Greece with Affinite in June however still have a long list of todos including providing a gangplank.
No room for a pasarelle but I notice that the flot boats use tatty old planks. I dont really want to carry one all the way so anyone know a plank dealer in Lefkas ?
BTW I have a bow ladder but Im thinking of stern to mooring situations. Ideas, experiences ?

Chandlery in Almerimar - http://www.marineint.com/ Just a few of the items they have including paserelles. Excellent for anything you might want in stainless steel; the ONLY place in all of the places we stopped where we found the oil changer (PELA model) which you stick down the dipstick hole.

if you call in the new marina in Levkas town which you`ll see first if you come in from the North you should have no problem getting a plank. if you want a real swanky one there`s a guy makes fibreglass ones down at Nidri 10 miles south after the canel. need any more info on the area please ask.

Up market planks are aluminium ladders with two wheels quay end and a plank u bolted to the steps.

I recommend a plank with the topping lift attached to the quay end so that it is lifted off the quay.

There must be a timber yard in Levkas but I have not seen it. Preveza is a better bet.

May I suggest to use an aluminium ladder with a non-slip strip of aluminum sheet as planking (1 / 1,5 mm thickness)? You just fix it with 2 rivets at each step and never needs maintenance; many mechanical shops in a maritime town have the material and are willing to cut it to size; if possible, have the sheet formed in a "U" shaped size that exactly fits the space between the struts, so you can put some rivets in the vertical sides of the "U" in order to fix it to the inside face of the ladder mounting planks and thus improuving the passerelle stiffness.
All material would costs in Italy around 80 - 100 €.
Enjoy the work and Cheers

Dunno about plank dealers in Levkas, our flot boats all had them so they must have come from somewhere.

A plank will be a lot cheaper than the all singing all dancing aluminium ladders, and less likely to get nicked though to be honest there's very little crime in that area.

With regards to stern to mooring - watch your rudder! Most but not all harbours are suitable for yachts to go stern to.

For example, in Fiskardo you will see the flotilla yachts stern to in some parts of the harbour but bows to near the entrance where Captain's Cabin Restaurant is.

Stern to is only advantageous if you have a windlass for the bow anchor or have mobility difficulties getting on and off the bow.

Yours aye,

Shakey.
