Yes, the bad weather variety! Having had a nice meal at the yacht club and no bad weather in sight early on, a friend of mine and I set out on my dinghy to stay on my boat overnight.
Well it was deifinately a bit more breezy than early in the evening and we pottered out slowly on the tender to avoid getting wet. We have an excellent mooring neighbour with a ferro-cement yacht called Julia-Anne II and we were hailed aboard for a Jamiesons or two before turning in.... (The owner is affectionately known as "Concrete John")
Well the wind picked up and up and up, to the point where I said to my friend Al "better get on our own boat". Went outside and found my tender upside down with the outboard under water - BUGGER! Dragged it onto the foredeck of Julie Anne and left it there.
Back in the cabin of Julie Anne for a couple more Jamiesons and off to bed. Now concrete John's boat is 40ft LOA and 13 tonnes and has 3 huge cabins. Whilst all the other boats around us, including mine, were thrown around like corks in a swimming pool, Julia Anne just rocked us gently to sleep. What a wonderful old yacht. At 03:00 we were experiencing F8-10 and I got up to a) go to the loo and b) look out.....bloody hell the whole harbour was madness, but Julie Anne just rocked away gently.
Then the rain started - it howled down!!! 09:00 whole thing subsided and we were able to start righting things that were wrong - and the day improved after breakfast.
Damage report - outboard needs stripping, 3 other tenders sunk, one tender broke loose, no yachts damaged to my knowledge.
Jools of Top Cat - were you in Pwllheli? Any other forumites in North Wales??
A bloody big thanks to John Proudman and his boat Julie Anne.
Coney Island is fine by the way.
