Just had a three week jaunt in Norway and it was great. Such super people and waterways. Accommodating seafarers except for when there are festivals in Stavanger.

I know a lot of people have been across there but am I alone in thinking its a great country, with great people?

Only did Stavanger to Bergen and back, but lovely views and great food. Booze was a problem though..... Have to get a bigger mortgage for my end of August return.

Couldn't agree more. I haven't had the pleasure of sailing there but do a lot of business there. Very friendly, helpful people and the added bonus of speaking impeccable English!!

Glad you enjoyed thr trip. If you can, you must get up to the area north of Bergen. Between Bergen and Florø (Sognefjorden). There are wonderful maze of islands is visit for anchoring or mooring.
I've just finished 3 weeks, We got down to Hardangerfjorden, visited 14 different, marinas ports and small harbours. The cheapest was £5.(kr.50) If you get to Florø. For example, under 30ft £10,(kr.100) over 35ft £15,(kr.150) which includes, delivered to your boat breakfast rolls and newspapers. At some marinas its just a pontoon which is along side a small shop, usually in the old traditional style.(landhandel). Also there are pontoons along side small mini supermarkets which are there for the local islanders. £10 overnight and can include power. They also sale diesel and petrol and have toilets and showers as well as washing machines and dryers. You can get good local guide maps. One or two place have their own small bakery. Fresh bread, rolls and cakes sold at your boat is one of the many pleasure of this area.

I have been working in Stavanger (I am writing this from my hotel at the moment) recently. I must say, that I will definitely be planning on sailing over (West Scotland) within the next couple of years for a month or so cruising.
What a beautiful country. Yes, they speak impeccable English !
I have worked (on and off) out of Norway (as far north as Bodo) over the past 15 years or so and have always had a soft spot for the place. OK, alcohol etc are very expensive by our standards but that doesn't make a country good or bad.
I find the scenery absolutely breath taking - and that is from someone whos boat is based in the West Coast of Scotland!
A very clean country too. Have you noticed how most people look fit and healthy, compared to the growing numbers of overweight people we seem to be inheriting in the UK? Where I am staying at the moment (hotel close to Randaberg, on the beach) people are out walking and cycling in all weathers. Whole families at the weekend. Couple this with the typical diet (plenty of salad, small portions of fish, chicken etc) and you can see why they put the UK to shame.
Thoroughly recommend the place.
