I was lucky that when i was in my early teens my father made friends with a guy who was a mad waterskiier.

He had an Albatross at the time (Now has a few) but also has a 1999 Glastron 175 sx with a 4.3 Penta.

So imagine my glee when said friend has a dilema of all boats been un servicable and my Fletcher still going strong!

So i'm off to Turkey on Sat for a week of sun, sand and Sangria with Mrs Gaz and leaving the boat with Jo Jo.

Now i'm not after an answer as i've made my choice but it is still scary even though the guy is a Millionaire and i'm an HGV driver, he WILL look after my boat and he has the means to replace repair it.

I just could not imagine Rhosneigr been suitable to ski/picnic and a good mate not having access to a suitable boat!

Q: DO I GO TO HEAVEN? :p

Should have posted a pic, here is Jo Jo's Albatross and his Glastron in the background!

It's your boat and if you are happy with it and you know your man is gonna take care of it then where's the problem...

...I on the other hand seem to have lots of cack handed mates who I'd worry about lending a lawn mower to! :) My Boat...Only if they gave their first born as a deposit!!

the rule for me, has always been you break it, you fix it, or pay for the fixin' and it works both ways, so if he hasn't got the wherewithall to pay for any damage, then he should not ask to "borrow"

Problem with that is whens its not clear why it broke, 'it just did'. If the engine has a catastrophic failure is that his fault, maybe he had been revving nuts off it, or maybe it would have had same failure if u had been using it? Would u expect him to pay for full rebuild / replacement or will u?

Can be a quick way to ruin friendships.

Crikey Kwacka....I don't know if sending you off to Greece was such a good idea.....we've now got the dubious combination of celtic/gaelic/welsh/greek/etc/etc/...:D

Welcome home btw...:)

I met a Greek guy (as yer do in Greece) who had spent his formative years in some greek isle
Poplopoheroinous, or summat
Then in New York for 25 years
Anyway, His brother got shot whilst emptying His wallet to an ethnic from a foreign country whilst walking down 21st avenue.
So, me Greek mate decided that The Big apple was more than he could chew.

So, as me new Mate was conversant, by now in various languages.
He has taught me more spokes!!
Good innit:)

'I have now learn't one or two phrases in 'New American Greekish'

'Mother fecker pricks'
'Mallaca mother feckers'

:)

I can see you are a natural at this Dialect!! :D

I can remember in my early days here I was speaking with a guy who's English wasn't so great...Anyways he translated a saying which in English is, "He farted on my balls". Now even to this day I don't know when you would use such an expression but I did point out to this chap that, for something like that to happen you really wasn't in a good position! If you know what I mean.....

Whoops, sorry for the drift.... :)

That's my point,if you are not prepared to pay for ANY damage however caused, don't ask to borrow, then your "friendships" stay intact, I found that in the main, people who borrow do so because they have not had the pain of buying their own, tools, come to mind, never mind thousands of pounds worth of boat!

that's why share ownership doesn't work very well, "it was ok when I used it last" is the mantra most often used when the next owner wants to use it and it doesn't start,or somethings broken.

unless you're on the top hundred rich list, us mere mortals cant really afford to be that generous, but all this is only in this old fart's humble opinion:D

A few years ago, two friends of mine who owned a tidy ski boat, about 12 to 14 foot long with a 50hp Mercury lent it to a friend of theirs. The story goes that he left Torquay Harbour complete with girlfriend, and broke down off the Imperial Hotel nearby. The hotel is actually perched on the cliffs to the east of the harbour mouth.
I believe the cause of the breakdown was neglecting to open the fuel tank vent so the engine was starved of petrol.
Whilst attempting to sort out the problem, probably both of them weighing down the stern which has almost no freeboard anyway, one of the larger tourist boats went past kicking up a bit of a wake. The inevitable happened, a wave poured over the stern and flooded the boat. The occupants went in the water and the boat sank to the bottom, obviously not enough built in bouyancy.
The couple were promptly rescued, the unfortunate boat had to wait for couple of days. The engine was written off by the insurers as being unecomical to repair, not sure what happened to the boat itself. Not sure if they remained friends either.
