HW Dover 14.40 bst
wind f/cast varies from w 3/4 to nw 3/4 decreasing 1/2

If i leave Nieuwpoort 12.30 BST i should have a fairly comfortable trip over with little tide and the tide pushing me up the Orwell

Thanks

Doug

At 20knots it's gong to take you 4 hours, which lands you on the Orwell around 16:30, two hours after HW, meaning you'll be punching the ebb in the Orwell.
If it's going to be a westerly, that means you'll be in for a wind over tide joy ride, so I'd set off earlier to make sure you get there with some flood left.... or, even better, just before slack.

Tis my opinion on it anyway.

Best of luck no matter what you choose mate, and enjoy it.... and check your filler cap /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Oh, worth noting that HW at Shotley was, if I remember correctly (and I really should, shouldn't I lol) 1436, so you're going to be looking nearer 1500 up this neck of the woods.

Here is what WindGRU has to offer for the middle of your trip.

We intend to be in Ipswich Wet dock tomorrow night.
Most likely the Haven.
Hope to see you there.
VHF will be on.
Give us a shout.

Have a good trip.

will someone explain gently what i am misreading...

HW Dover = 14.40
Depart HW Dover - 02.00
according to tidal flows on page 680 of Reeds...... tide will be from north though i run through slack water HW-1 & HW....so i shouldnt have any wind/tide effect for most of the journey.
Just realised i have NP251 and that confirms tides will be slack most of the way....
I didnt check HW Harwich so agree punching the Orwell but thats not a problem

am i going nuts sitting here on my own.....

Listening to Monty Python ....4 Yorkshiremen.....

Both you and the forecast wind will be crossing the main tide flow so there should not be to much wind against tide wave action but the wind from now to then as in your face so and residual wave action will be coming at you.
