I have a composite business in Wiltshire and I am looking into providing a service that would repair and or modify boats.

I aim to offer glass fiber, carbon fiber and kevlar repairs modifications as required by the owner, also a fabrication and maching service if required.

I am trying to gauge interest if this service would be of interest to anyone?

well we all have boat repairs and some of us have new bits made / replacement bits for obsolete boats. but most moorings or marinas have someone nearby who does the work and some marinas even have the anti competitive behaviour of banning outside contractors or changing them a fee. so my guess is thatyou probably wouldnt do much in the way of routine repairs from wiltshire, but might do reasonable business in the spare parts such as rudders.

but tbh, its no more than a guess.

As a Boat builder, repairer, re wirer, renovator, moulder, fabricator and running a waterproofing business based in what else but fibreglass; I can tell you there is lots of work out there.

More than you can do (unless you plan to work 24/7) and then some. Better still, you don't have to spend any money on advertising, just do a good job at a good price and the word will spread faster than you can say "when would you like that done".

Wouldn't it make more sense to site the business near to boats - i.e. the sea? Just a thought.

I don't know whether I can speak for ALL sub-30' boat owners but certainly from my point of view, the cost of moving it to and from Wiltshire plus whatever work I'd have done would probably not make financial sense. Would you offer a mobile service for some types of work?

Also, can you make moulds from computer "CAD" models? PM me if you can!

Have you thought of contacting various owners associations of popular boats?

chances are they will be able to suggest what they need ie gas lockers ,instrument pods ,hatch garages locker lids etc.
