Would this tool be of use for starting an outboard engine ?

Hi,
I invented the tool in the you tube video for pull starting my garden equipment after I had some major heart surgery. I was wondering if it might also be of use for starting an outboard engine ? Comments most welcome. FYI I am raffling one tool with the funds raised being donated to the World Heart Federation. Link for raffle is below.

but quite big to store on a boat small enough in itself not to have an electric start outboard / inboard.

Pretty clever and seemed to pull the chord nice and hard!

Cost will be an determinate of course!
 
Nice invention brankif! I think it is great for use around a house/garage/farm for dealing with lots of engines that can only be bought with rope-start, but boat engines are all electric start except for the tiny ones, and I agree with jrudge that you only find such engines fitted to boats that are too small to carry your device, unfortunately

A nice invention, if you're looking for one, would be a small bendix unit the size of a cotton reel, that you fit permanently to the top of an outboard engine, going thru the hood and onto a flywheel ring gear, then you "dock" the electric drill and use it as a starter motor, and then remove the drill.

...and also, they generally only have one such engine, so a retro-fit electric start of some kind makes more sense than a portable starter that can be used on multiple unmodified machines.

I've tried to work out how the mechanism works. Presumably there's a loop of chain or belt which is driven by the drill and has on it an attachment for hooking the starting cord onto. Can't work out how you adjust for different length cords, though.
 
Might be better off posting on the practical boat owner forum as it's probably of more interest to yacht owners with small outboards which can be a long reach from the cockpit yacht owners are often elderly & have the space to carry the unit
it might also appeal to the odd riverboater as they often have 20-25 hp outboards although many will be electric start many are dual with rope & electric & you may find owners who would buy as an emergency start aid
You see rope start engines up to 40 or 50 hp in the UK & even larger in other countries but I wonder if the unit will have the grunt to pull a large ish CC engine over
 
Great example of solution based inventing, it might not go into production but this sort of ingenuity is what has made this country so great.
