Some years ago one of the rags (PBO? YM?) used as its cover a spectacular photograph of a yacht leaving Portpatrick in heavy weather, half the keel exposed as she crossed the bar.
The following issue had the usual batch of sanctimonious letters, the general tenor of which was "How would the skippet justify this appalling decision to leave in those conditions to the lifeboat crew?"
The next again issue had a letter in reply. "I was the skipper of the yacht on the cover. I am also the coxswain of Portpatrick lifeboat. Get stuffed." (I paraphrase).
