Hi Newbie to forum, would like to commend the helpfull advise through out the forum community here at YBW.
My Father and Law acquired a day sailer hull some years back with the hope of having time to carry out a full build on her. As yet this has not been possible. But in the mean time he would like to find out as much info- on her as possible. She was bought from New forest Motor spares (car breakers of all places) which apparantly sold a few kits which came with a leaflet flyer (His hull being the last and a little grubby, never came with any literature). These hull/kits were apparantly made in the Dorset/Hampshire area, as a kit day sailer/Trailer sailer. We have no knowledge of what the manufactuer was or the model name.... any help on identifying her would great she is around 17ft long of GRP construction (Bonded hull and deck) with a moulded area for the swing keel/drop keel. She looks like she could be a four berth if fitted out cleverly. Hopefully these links will get you to some photo's of her.

Colvic Falcon 17. Doubtful though as they were moulded by Colvic in Witham, Essex but someone could have been buying the hulls and fitting them out.

I've got one small picture but it's not good enough to be much use and i cant find any others.

This site will sell you a copy of the brochure but I'm not £10 worth convinced its the one

Thanks for the possible lead, I'll check it out. Like you say you never know it could have been bought down from Essex and then fitted out down here. My Father in law has only what he was told on the day of purchase to go so far (Some 5-6years ago) but thanks again will keep posted. If any one thinks they recognise her or very simular as in simular line to. Bang it down on quick reply it all helps thanks again.

Just been searching the Colvic Lead and have found out they where Laminated by a Company called 'Ardleigh Laminated Plastics Ltd' of Falmouth. I can not find any other leads at present about this company but if any one know of any sites or links.. ideas

It looks like it could be a nice little projest. However of course it will be expensive compared to buying a s/h boat.
If you or he go ahead with the build I reckon you could design the rest of it quite well without worrying about original design. Having had my T/s for 25 years I have some ideas.

Mine has a vertical drop centre board which gives a lot of room just inside the entrance hatch. A post at the front of the centreboard case goes up to make a mast support post. The c/b has a slope aft to bring c of lat ressitance back a bit. Another post at the back of the case goes up to the roof to give strength to a lifting tackle attachment and 4 purchase tackle goes on top of cabin back to a sheet winch. The c/b is fibreglass on wood and lead with about 100kg of balast. It is as long as will fit when retracted up to the cabin roof and level with the hull underneath. There is more balst under the floor.

I am assuming that the hull does not already have a stub keel for balast or a centre board case already fitted. If it has a stub keel and long c/b case then a swing keel of steel would probably be easier but definitely will not sail as well. This stub keel also means you have to sink trailer deeper into the water to get boat on and it will not sit on mud or float in really shallow water as you can with a flat bottom.

A friend has recently bought a trailer sailer with a swing keel where the c/b case extends back to the entrance hatch and he just finds it too cramped with this case along the middle of the floor. he is trying to sell the boat again.
A local designed boat has quite a deep stub keel such that there is no c/b case intruding into the floor area it resides under the floor and in the stub keel.

You will spend a small fortune buying all the bits you need.
Best plan is to look around for a similar size secondhand boat with a really rough hull (but hopefully a trailer), probably with osmosis. Buy it cheap and strip all the gubbins. pushpit, cleats, winches, spars, rigging, rudder, absolutely everything.
Dispose of the manky hull (cut it up and take to a dump or somesuch) and get your tin of metal polish out.
You'll save literally hundreds, nay thousands, of beer tokens.

Lakesailar and Will, are damed right in what you guy's say, The Father in-law is retiring in two years so could be a good project for him to keep him out of trouble. The annoying thing just a couple of years back he sold one of his boat's which was in fair shape that had all the correct components on it that could have been transposed over to this hull. But he had made a deal with a mate, and did not want to go back on his agreement, much to his annoyance now (but hay ho), we live and learn. The father and law and myself are very simular when it comes down to wanting to know as much as possible about the product/project we are working on so as to make the best job of it, or if we sold it latter we have the information to hand for the next potential owner. Cheers guys for the helpfull info-. I will try and get some more detailed shots of her on the post so as to help any other helpfull forum guys to possibly identify her.
