Would I be mad......to chop in my 6 year old diesel mobo for say a 2 year old (possibly less) equiv petrol mobo?

Were only talking 25-27(ish) ft, single engine, so no twin gas gusslers with 54000 ltr cylinders.

Not really wanting to rake up the old diesel / petrol debate and parking the old 'safety' bun fight, it seems that I can get a much newer petrol boat for the same sort of value with lots of new exciting things to go wrong as opposed to the pages of items that have already gone / about to go wrong or broke? /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

How much does a typical 5.0 ltr petrol cost to run per hour, subjective question I know due to the variables, but ballpark for say a days cruising around the solent.

Won't run a poll just interested in the feedback.

Should it be a 'don't be a mad makkers'

Or

Is it go for 'new mobo makkers'

Younger sibling's Rinker 232 with a VP 5.0Gxi uses about 11Gals/hr at a reasonably fast cruise = 50L/hr or therabouts...

I have no issues with petrol as I have a petrol boat myself. But, before you take the plunge check out your marina and cruising area for the availability of petrol, unless you like humping cans eveywhere and having a car that smells like a petrol pump.

You'd be mad....

I like Petrol boats myself - but the cost of running em is terrible...

The only reason I don't have a diesel is purchase cost - you've done that bit. And buying new means you lose all the money rather than yours which has already lost it - I'd keep the one you've got if I was you!
