This is going to be a novelty. Both kids are off on the school ski trip tomorrow for 8 days. This will be the first time in 13 years that we have been a childless couple. How, apart from the obvious, do you suggest we make the most of this opportunity?

Stress free sailing and "the obvious" would be my choice.

We try to get away on the boat for 1 long weekend a year without our 2 .As much as I love them I look forward to the break!

Unless you do something special you will probably end up just staring at each other and counting down the days until the kids get back. It's amazing how much you miss the little b*****s!

With one away at Uni and the other not too far from following, we have started reverting to being a couple, rather than just parents and facility managers. Actually takes a little effort, but it is very enjoyable.

Enjoy some Close Encounters of the nicest sort - and try and fit in a bit of sailing as well. You'll be surprised how quickly you get used to being a couple again. My youngest finishes Uni this May and is making Wouldn't-it-be-nice-to-go-sailing noises. Made us think how we've got used to sailing as a couple.

It's not strictly the first time in 13 years. We did manage to park them with friends for a weekend last season when we went to fetch the boat back from Le Harve. When we got on board without the kids it was like having a bigger boat.
