Worried about daughter buying a houseboat advice please

Shes got to leave this one alone, 1896...rivets...how many rivets are rusted beyond repair? do you know anyone that can rivet? i worked on a c1953 riveted boat a few years back and the rivets along the deck holding the bulwarks in place started to pop after a few months at sea, hellish expensive to repair, its a dying skill.

plenty of newer boats to live on. good luck.

Savageseadog gives the best advice - with this sort of asking price, walk away from it and check out property auctions instead. Houses may flood occasionally, if you're unlucky, but they rarely sink! Living on a houseboat may be romantic, but apart from the risk of sinking, they're difficult to keep warm in the winter without massive amounts of insulation, they suffer from condensation on any bare metalwork, and they may be hard to sell when you want to move on.

surely they will have to have a survey in order to get insurance for the whole set up? one just cant buy something like this without a survey. If cash is tight then they should look at a smaller cheaper one that they can afford a survey on. better a smaller decent boat with a survey than a big old hulk of a shipwreck.
