World\'s Best Views [NB]

I've just visited the Alhambra in Granada, and have added it to my list of ' best views' though I'm not sure if this should be the view from the Alhambra, or of the Alhambro, from the Albaicin, with the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background.
Other favourites are : English harbour, Antigua, from Shirley Heights [with the second rum punch in my hand], Hong Kong Harbour from the Peak, and the view from the top of Gold Hill in Shaftesbury, for Engishmen [and bread lovers].
Any others?
I suppose after the third post the thread will degenerate into talk of bonus cheques and items of Britney Spears lingerie, but so what!

Britney Spears Lingerie

I've never seen it but reckon its probably got the edge on Paras Grundies - for me the best view is Arduine Point at the end of Loch Melfort - outward bound at the start of a cruise or homeward bound at the end of one.

I always thought, in the words of Doctor Johnson, that the fairest prospect in Scotland was the road leading to England? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

The view over Poole Bay from the path to Old Harry takes some beating.

View from the Corcavado statue platform in Rio de Janeiro, when there are slightly hazy conditions (often!) over the myriad of small islands. Thats where the Kodak Advantix camera system was best used!!!

Re: Bonus cheques

I think that the view of a bonus cheque would be very agreeable.

Oh, and the view from the top of Loughrigg fell in the Lake District, perhaps, or probly loads of view from ariound there.

Re: World\'s Best Views [NB]

My fave, tho not really a view, has to be mid atlantic, night time (the 12-4), flat calm, no moon and just STARS!!! The only time an uncouthe yobbo like me appreciated the insignificance of being.

Another nice view has to be the Foot-Foothills across the plain of Duvet.

These are wonderful images and I can feel a warm tingling all over - mainly due to spending the afternoon pulling nettles out of the herbaceous border.
Stood on the steps of Cape Finisterre lighthouse a couple of weeks ago in what seemed at least a F15 and the Atlantic was the most awesome and frightening seascape I've seen. And ahem the view from my house over the Donegal hills takes some beating.

Surely the light and the time of day make so much differnce not too mention who you're with.

But here's a few.

The view from the Crinan Hotel (Scotland) at Sunset in May.
The sun setting on Rum from either Arisag or Canna ( Scotland)
Battion and the rift valley behind from the Top of Mount Kenya
Sunrise on the Barrier Reef,

Having just returned from Sunsail holls in Antigua I would agree with view of English Harbour from Shirley heights
However I would suggest the most popular view would be the view astern of the yacht just overtaken, having been trying to do so for the past hour whilst appearing not to have been trying.

On one particular night .... Lymington!!
One of those late evenings when the sun was low and red in the sky, no clouds, no wind. The sky was rusty red, Lymington, yachts and marshes were 'black' and all reflected in the mirror calm water. Fabulous!!

Re: World\'s Best Views [NB]

After some 32 days of crossing the Indian Ocean without a cloud in the sky the little white cumulus hovering over the Seychelles seen from about 15 miles out were the excuse for cracking open a bottle or two (no fears of being arrested for contravening alcohol limits).
PS this was in 1962 when the only satellites in the sky were called Sputniks and nav was by using the old and tried methods and an instrument called a sextant.

Glencoe always gets to me whatever the weather (entering from Rannoch Moor). I especialy love it when the weather is particularly bleak, it looks so moody.

However one of my most spectacular views was the sunrise from Huang Shan (Yellow Mountain) in China.

That\'s easy.....

... the sight of your offspring, education finished, setting forth on their new-found carrers, financially independent of parents who's mortgage is paid off, can afford to sail away and have the boat out there capable of doing it and waiting to be cast off.

If only!
