In my forthcoming trip to Portugal & Spain I was hoping to receive R4 weather forecasts by using a world space radio. I remember a previous post that said reception in Spain is limited by the available satellite and hence no Radio4. Can anyone advise how far south they will work? South Brittany? I used to rely on Marine Call but premium lines are now understandably blocked on my company mobile.

Details of coverage are available on the web, can't remember where but you can google for them. But coverage in the med is very patchy and I decided against it for now even though I am addicted to R4.

If you get a little SSB receiver you can get the BBC world service and forecasts in English/French/Spanish. Add a laptop and you can also get detailed weather fax and navtex. For weather it certainly seems a better solution than R4. For the news quiz or ISIHAC, not so good.

You can get R4 long wave without problem in S. Brittany. This said reception has been very bad (in the Paris area) over the last week or so. No reception at all within about 1 mile of the Eiffel Tower.
