i have a 35 ft boat which i live on. due to high marina fees i am starting to seriously consider leaving early on a world cruise. the bank has financial interest in my boat so i'll need to be insured. i have some income but intend to day work on super yachts and pick oranges or what ever to make ends meet. don't have all the fancy kit on my boat but its comfy. does anyone have any thoughts on the advantages/disadvantages of this plan. and wot i'm likely to pay for insurance (i'm yacht master offshore) thanks

premium likely to be 1 - 1.25 percent of value. probably you will have restrictions on numbers of crew for ocean passages and certainly restrictions on where you are when (eg not in caribbean during hurricane season.) you will need a survey if the boat is old.

I am insured with St Margarets at considerably less than the quote I got from Bishop Skinner despite their so-called RYA discount!

Get a quote from Pantaenius. I've always found them helpful and they automatically renew each year so that's one less thing to negotiate again.
