In the process of building our boat, we plan to "knock up" a workboat of some kind for while we are resident on our river mooring. But I have come across abit of a blank when it comes to finding plans/kits/hull and deck for anything resembling the harbour launches used by the majority of harbour authorities in the uk.

Who makes these machines, and as I expectthem to be very costly, does anybody know of somebody that does the plans etc for something similar?

I'm thinking along the lines of Aluminium or GRP construction, but would consider steel as I have all the gear to build one already!

Cheers

If its just for on the river to service your new boat have you considered a punt, good stable work platform & easy to load, you could even add a small derick. Also so simple you dont need plans its just a steel box with a sloping bow & stern!

Cheers for that. Maybe i should qualify what we want.

I guess thinking about it abit more, we need something that will get us ashore easily and without getting wet from weather. Inboard diesel is a must, but performance isnt. I guess there is a size limit for "free parking" which I seem to remember is 5m in most places... is there such a thing as a "Cuddied dory???"

You are really looking for a fishing boat, as it is this type that most nearly approaches your needs. I have seen a dory with a cuddy, but IIRC there is something on ebay at the moment which might meet you needs.
