I nipped down to see Forbsie today and while chatting about how the overall project is going or should look we decided the best thing to do was go ahead and start .

Water had been getting trapped behind the paint on the upper planking and the rubbing strake (pine) was rotten so that lot had to come off .

There was very little rot in the planking so i think we may be able to get away with letting it dry out , giving it a coat of preservative and then prime and paint .
The stem post seems to have a little rot where the planking meets it but again very little and i think we can get away with digging out the small area and putting in an oak patch .
The lower planking / paint only seemed to be blown in a few places and no sign of water when opened up so thats a good thing .
Anyway a few more pics .

Ill let the man himself tell you what his plans are for the superstructure and decks , im still waiting for him to decide myself /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

She was beached for a basic survey about 6 weeks ago and the hull appeared fairly solid with a couple of small points that will need attention. Limited inspection inside the boat as we remove the wall panels seems to bear this out.

The same cannot be said for the topsides which are in a helluva state. It seems that a previous owner has clad over a lot of damage and rot with mahogany planks. I'm going to strip these off this week, in between some paid work, and see what the total damage is. Since I am intending replacing the decks anyway, this is not too much of a setback and, looking on the plus side, will allow us to re-style the step-up to the foredeck more effectively. It's difficult to know the full implications of this until all this cladding has been removed.

Jason also scarphed in a piece at the top of the stem post today wich looks great.

I did notice that as soon this information was leaked to the financial press, the price of Foster's shares shot up. If I thought that it was just going to cost me a few crates, it would be worth it but I think that the help I'm getting is going to cost me a lot more than that. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thanks Jason!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yup best do a deal with the Barmy Arms on a few kegs /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Ive been thinking about it and if the Oak underneath is all rotten you are going to need larger planks to shape it as well as time to steam it (if we cant bend it)
I noticed mark is getting some large offcuts of larch from what he is doing and as its topside and painted it may save a few quid to buy that if its spare and you want to go down that road .
