I'm on a mooring the far side of Pin Mill and would like to invite my parents aboard both of who are the wrong end of 70.

I'm uncomfortable about rowing them over and expecting them to board from the dinghy whilst it and my boat are moving about. Does anyone know if Woolverstone or Levington marina's would be agreeable to me using them as a pick up / drop off point.

Bit of a cheek to expect them to do it foc I know but I was just wondering.

Thanks

RHYC are very cool and generally let you make short stays on their pontoons - we've done it and it's very much appreciated (tips hat)

And a pickup at Levington out of the busy hour will cause no grief.

But pulling in to Woolverstone? Expect a uniformed gauleiter to stand between you and your would-be passengers with his hand out....not a company basted in the best traditions of the sea, you undertstand...

You are I trust referring to MDL Woolverstone here, not RHYC?

That's how i read it Leigh.

We've not stopped at RHYC yet this year, but when we had our old Princess on a swinging mooring at Pin Mill in '98 we stopped a few times. We even had a berth there for 3 or 4 days, for a very sensible fee, when we sold the boat, to allow potential buyers easy access and to clear our belongings.

We much appreciated the way the RHYC allowed visiting boats and us poorly locals on swinging moorings to avail ourselves of their hospitality. We're now in Shotley and i'm pleased to find that Shotley also offer the same friendly attitude to visiting yachts. Without this type of "co-operation" we'd all be restricted to our home marina or the anchor and it really annoys me to hear of marinas that are less than helpful to non berth holders or who try to rob visiting boaters. Like last month, when Neptune marina at Ipswich wanted to charge us £24 to nip ashore for an hour for some lunch.

I've used both SYH and Shotley to pick up/drop off crew. At SYH at the fuel berth and Shotley at the outside pontoon. It only takes a couple of minutes if you plan it right and of course advise SYH/Shotley of your intentions. Or collect crew whilst fuelling up at SYH?
