Wooden Motor Cruiser Antifouling

Hi,
I have a 40ft motor cruiser with larch planking that I am rebuilding. I read the PBO antifouling article with interest. The results did seem to vary quite a bit around the country. I will be moving from Plymouth to the Thames over the next two years. Was actually thinking of not wasting too much time and using http://www.captainwatts.com/product...r-uno-antifouling-3-litre?variant=13723806919 as it is a good price and I think I will need to change next year. Any experience/thoughts?

That is a pretty standard type of antifouling. Difficult to say whether it will be the most effective where you are going. as you say effectiveness varies with location and it might be worth finding out what others use where you will be based. There are many effective products at much lower prices than that premium brand. BTW it is largely irrelevant that your boat is wooden construction as most antifouls are suitable for either wood or GRP.
 
Thanks for your response. I already thought I was being a little cheap with Cruiser Uno.. It did seem from the PBO article that in most cases the more you pay the better the outcome. I had always thought Flag was the answer, (I am sure I recall Yachting Monthly voting it highly in the past) but that did not do so well this time. I think I will have a chat with the chandlery.
 
When we had a 33 foot wooden motorsailer we used Cruiser Uno with good results, and have kep using Cruiser Uno after our switch to GRP 7 seasons ago. We are in a very different place to you, up at the head of a Scottish sea loch with fairly brackish water. We do not suffer from significant weed or shellfish growth.
 
Wooden sailing boat, Hemple tiger extra works for us on the Hamble and ocean village. Goes on easily and 2 decent coats out of one 2.5l tin seems to do the job on our 24 foot sail longkeeler.

I have a 34ft. Afrormosia planked (on Oak ribs ) motor boat , build in 1965. Because of the Turnedo Navalis I used tar . In the 80th I had some of them at the oak keel. Since the first use of tar
they hate my boat. But I think , its forbidden now. I use EU Uno (blue).
But the boat isnt anymore in saltwater .
From 1965 to 1998 she was in Emden.
Now 150 km south of the coast.

Thanks for all your comments. Interestingly Seajet came out top of the PBO list in most areas but I have not come across anyone who has actually used it and, it is that bit more expensive. I am getting the idea that most things are OK at least! I will have another chat with the Dave at Captain Watts and see if he convince me to spend anymore than the Uno. Feels a bit like buying tyres for your car, they all look similar but you only find out if they are any good when you are off down the road but at least now I have some suggestions. The day is nearing when I can not procrastinate further (mind you with the amount of rain coming I may not get time before she floats on her own).
