Wooden mast
I need a mast for a 20 ft lugger as I have snapped it again so a bigger one is needed ,something over 24ft long and about 6 inches diameter. An old smacks boom or bowspit will do

Or, with winter coming on, build a new one with the birdsmouth technique. There are several sites explaining it, google Duckworks. It allows for less than perfect long lengths, as you can scarfe the staves. Can be done with a simple bench saw or, in my case, router table. Mast, boom and yard all done this way on my Oughtred boat, very satisfying as well.

For poles: Calders & Grandidge, Boston.

Skim the pole with a router. Make up a jig from long lengths of angle-iron, strap 'em to the pole. Run the router along the pole making a series of 'castellated' grooves (like a series of machined splines). Then remove the material from between the grooves. Then start sanding ....
