David Cox is a great surveyor of wooden boats in the South West...When i asked 3 different surveyors from around England who they would use to survey a wooden boat for themselves, each replied David Cox.
I also see that he does not advertise....
Definitley use David Cox if you are buying, he is the most pernickety surveyor I have ever come across.
Just hope he is not chosen by your buyer, they WILL pull out.
In other words I think he paints an over gloomy pcture of a boat. He would say "realistic". But what wooden boat owner can be described as realistic?
If you do employ David then do not lose too much heart when you get the report. The boat is probably still viable.
For example: he condemned my toilet installation as dangerous: the antisiphon vent hole was blocked; it had been for years (I thought that was the way it worked). It took ten minutes to clear it with a pin, but the buyer was quaking!
He's not local but not shy of travel; 2 years ago he was commuting to the caribbean to consult on the build of a neoclassic 12M gaffer, and Puerto Banus last month for renovation of a coldmoulded motoryacht.
Adrian Stone on the isle of wright based in cowes again he is not local but is a shipwright who does a lot of wooden boat restorations and he will travel as when i worked for him he was called out to survey a sprit yacht in the med. A very honest guy who believes in calling a spade a spade his mobile is 07850290998
