I recently attended the Southampton Boat Show with my Uncle who spent the majority of his working life at sea in one form or another (22yrs engineer on the Winston Churchill). Whilst I don't get to see him as much as I would like to, the boat show is an ideal opportunity. Having said that, we really go to look at, admire and talk about the wooden boats on display. Sadly there are too few of them. Can anyone offer suggestions as to any other boat shows or whatever where we can go, to admire the craftsmanship, run a hand over the smooth joints and varnish and still have a pint? He is based in the the New forest and I in Kent.
Many thanks for any help.

What the Thames flyer doesn't tell people is that it is a specifically wooden boat show; no plastic here at all. At least there wasn't any plastic when I visited there in 2000. I spent both days of the weekend there, snapping everything in sight for the boaty mates back home. This was followed by a trip to Portsmouth. It was only when I arrived at Portsmouth that I discovered that I hadn't loaded my camera! Oh, No! It is ideally located for you, as you and your uncle can meet there, having travelled toward each other to get there. Excellent venue, excellent show.
Peter.
