If I were to move to Oban, who would I get to do routine maintenance on my wooden boat?

I cant remember the guys name but there is a guy up at Barcaldine which seems to specialise in wooden boats. Hes spent a very long time restoring a boat up there while ive been working on my dads boat - and i believe he still is.

That could well be Ewen Jnr. at Creran Marine.
Just finished a grand job on a wooden launch now afloat in Loch Etive.

He operates out of the leftmost workshop here: http://www.creranmarine.co.uk/creranmarine.html

Mallaig is fair old ways away from Oban. I think Charlie is long gone but in his day the yards bread and butter was fishing boats. not sure if its still in the family or whose running it now but fishing boats looked to be a bit thin on the ground last time I passed through.
My uncle used Crinan up until just a couple of years ago and was very happy with the work done there.

For yachts Ardishaig boatyard run by the perfectionist Jackie Kay is hard to beat though Adam Way is good too. It is worth visiting Jackies shed to admire the work he does in there, however his standards are very high so if you want a cheap rush job go elsewhere, for a wooden boat either he or Adam being specialists might offer better value than Crinan or Ardfern boatyards though being much bigger they might tackle a rush job quicker. Jackie has the advantage of having his own slip and crane and can lift up to about 30 tons (I think). His work is not restricted to wood, he took in a scuffy E boat last winter which now is indistinguishable from new, he had a steam launch up from England for overhaul too. Adam has a website (arway boatbuilding ? try google) but Jackie relies on word of mouth. You can get an idea of the standard by pausing to look at Juliet Kilo and either the could moulded or clinker tender on her davits , Jackies home, in the Ardishaig dummy lock; a Cheverton pilot boat hull finished and maintained to his standards.
Adam operates the outdoor yard at Cairnbaan on the Canal but his workshop is in an industrial estate though he also has a yard with slip in East Loch Tarbert.

Ah. Now I understand why Juliet Kilo is always there, and what her name means. You're absolutely right - she's gorgeous.

Thanks everyone - Barcaldine is looking like the best bet. Met a brace of Ewans there who seemed very helpful, and recommended Brendan for shipwright work. Still hunting a house in the area (& got one to sell down here!)

No slight on other recommendations, but Barcaldine is convenient.

Brendan Burgess is a really nice guy and did a great job on a motor sailer parked behind me a couple of years ago.
The Barcaldine sheds are a good place to be for wooden boat maintenance although they do leak a bit (the sheds not the boats of course).
The boss, Martin Waterhouse, is very helpful.
