Woodbridge (Maritime) Heritage Days

Three line whip!

Mirelle found an attendance form in a waterproof envelope tucked under the cockpit cover, so she certainly has to turn up, and will probably be the oldest Whisstocks boat there, as her big sister Marlin is in France and for sale at the moment.

Fans of the Tide Mill Yacht Harbour will be relieved to know that, according to local rumour, Richard is reported to have greeted news of the event with the words "Discount? What's that?" /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So I reckon we are paying full whack!

Re: Three line whip!

Ha ha! Good good, I would have been worried. I haven't yet heard back from One-Eyed Nancy gang, but I will certainly be at the marina at some point. At this time of year Crystal is one of the only boats in the yard at Robertson's, so I'm wondering whether I ought to do anything with her to get into the spirit of the thing. Not really sure what, though. I've emailed Mike the guv'nor to ask him what he'd prefer I do - essentially, I asked him if I should keep out of the way!

Details seem to be scarce about particular events, and a bit optimistic too - I heard today that there is a particularly high spring tide that weekend, and that the flood defences will be closed which means public access to the waterfront will be quite limited. I'll also have to rethink my maintenance plans as it's highly likely the boatyard will be awash.

However, a BBQ at the Tidemill or a pub session would be right up my street. I'm sure a bit of research on Saturday would yield some information, and seeing as I tend to wander from pub to pub when in Woodbridge anyway I will look into it and report back.

Thanks for that.

yes the tides are huge and also again in October. If there is a low hanging around in the N sea for a day or two enough for a storm surge I shall be here at home in Maylandsea with my sandbags, we are just behind the seawall. And my bunglaow is wooden so might float off its slab!
But long term forecast at moment is suggesting high pressure.
cheers Paul

Nothing organised as far as I know but there are several of us who would be up for a good session. We used to play in several Woodbridge pubs in the past (Anchor, Bell & Steelyard, Red Lion, Mariners...) but the '2 in a bar' licensing legislation has put paid to a lot of them. Maybe the Anchor would host a 'spontaneous' happening though? Otherwise an outdoor session sounds fun.

There's also festivals at Yarmouth and Reedham the same weekend which might also suffer from the tides. We had intended to go to Reedham but meandering up to Woodbridge from Ramsholt looks more attractive right now than slogging up to Yarmouth and begging for the bridge to be opened.
My mobile no is 07885365032 and I reckon its most likely we will be in the Tidemill. Perhaps the terrace seating area down the side of the Anchor might work well too for a session if the weather is borderline? Keep in touch,
Paul
