Got up to Woodbridge last week end for the Festival and I must say it was very good, scraped into the tidemill, drawing 1.9 as we do, harbour master told me it would get to just over 2m over the cill on saturday but it didnt quite make 2.0m.
They had a few barges and the old gaffers assoc was there. also some bearded blokes with there fingers in there ears singing shantys etc, loads of things for kids to do which was great and another load of bearded blokes dressed up as Vikings, together with an encampment, they advertised 'a battle' and I thought oh yeah this is going to be a bit pathetic, but they really got stuck in, it was good fun. Getting out of the Deben on the Sunday on a falling spring tide with a 18knt easterly was a bit of a character builder, I have never come out when it has been so rough, but the old stagers will probably say 'that was nothing'
I would recommend it next year.

We were there too in Santana - I suspect it was you following us out through Methersgate before overtaking when we started sailing at the Tips. We weren't in a hurry as we only had to get down to our mooring at the Ferry, then drive back round to the festival.

I thought it was great, but then I would - Nancy Blackett was there, along with two other Ransome boats, and my daughter arranged Pirates of the Caribbean and some sea shanties to play in the concert on strings with a couple of friends. They were a trio, were billed as a quartet, and were introduced as a quintet.

It cost me quite a lot of dosh, as I came back with a couple of Claudia Myatt's wonderful prints, Xmas cards, a number of tea towels, a few old (but very good) books, and some 1925/26 issues of "Yacht Sales and Charters".

All in all a very good weekend, despite trying to break a recently acquired and very exuberant four year old German Shepherd dog into sailing and life aboard!

Yes it was, you were having a 'boisterous sail' hope no one was trying to drink a cup of tea below! the apparent wind went up to 26knts as we went past you just as you went on your ear, dont suppose you had a chance to look!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif we were in a bit of a hurry to get out, as the sea state was only going to get worse, we spent rather a lot as well!

Not for long, anyway - was too busy trying to prevent the dog's claws from damaging the teak cockpit seats in her effort to avoid sliding! I suppose we could've reefed, but it was fun, and we weren't leaving the river.

I'd have had to reduce sail if the Waldringfield dinghy race had been crossing the deep water channel though - it was nearly impossible to see below the genny.
