I've just put Bonda wood seal in my Iroko cap rail. See picture.
Has anyone ever considered just putting a couple of coats of this on and not bothering with varnish or woodskin at all?

If it's the same Bonda wood seal that's been around for some years then I wouldn't have thought of putting varnish on it. It pretty much is varnish - it's Polyurethane based and dries to a gloss finish so I don't see any gain from putting a varnish over the top myself. It's an OK product from what I remember (which was some years back) but some other the later (and much more expensive) varnishes will last for a couple of seasons before showing signs of needing redoing, even in frequent sunshine.
